Mathematical Systems at Northwest Prep

"Doing mathematics should always mean discovering patterns and crafting beautiful and meaningful explanations." -Lockhart

Mathematical Systems

At NWP students take an integrated approach to mathematics. Instead of being divided into the separate courses of Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry, math strands are combined to give students a more holistic understanding of mathematics. To assist in this endeavor we utilize the Mathematics Vision Project curriculum as well as various supplemental resources.
After completing the math courses at NWP students will have a thorough understanding of the strands of Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics and Probability. Students will also have been introduced to the fundamentals of Calculus. Most importantly, students will grasp the interconnectivity of mathematics and be able to employ mathematical thinking in any type of situation.

Note: High School students at Northwest Prep take Integrated Mathematics. Incoming 9th graders are all placed in Integrated Mathematics 1 where they are exposed to units dealing with Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, and Trigonometry. The course is differentiated to meet the needs of students at various levels of mathematical ability.
